  2. Below you will find a letter I received from a person I know who
  3. lives out of state.  With his permission, I am reproducing this
  4. letter here and if any of you have had similar experiences, or
  5. know anything about this, please reply.

  12. I was born in March of 1957. Raised an Army brat my family and I
  13. traveled extensively before finally settling down in Augusta, Georgia
  14. during the mid-sixties. During the past 15 years of my life I have
  15. been involved, until recently in law enforcement in several counties
  16. in Georgia.
  17.  
  18. During these 15 years I have encountered many unusual situations both
  19. that had an explaination and those that did not.  My interest in UFOs
  20. resulted from exposure by my father during the 60's to every
  21. imaginable form of literature on the topic that he could find .  I
  22. never really understood why he had this facination until much later
  23. in life.  I can remember the magazines and paperback books
  24. accumulating and standing at the news-stand with my father looking
  25. for any newly released material on the topic.  When Project Blue-Book
  26. was published he purchased it and after reading it he told me that
  27. the book was a cover-up and that I should read it but not believe
  28. what it said.  He would respond to no further questions on the topic.

  30. In the summer of 1969 after my fathers return from Viet-Nam we were
  31. walking across a field to a neighbors house when he called my
  32. attention to a light in the sky near the full moon.  We stood there
  33. observing the light (solid white) approach the moon and indeed appear
  34. to go behind it and come out the other side.  The light then appeared
  35. to enter into the Earths atmosphere and pass directly over head
  36. without a sound or any detectible running lights.  After a fashion it
  37. passed out of sight over the horizon.  At this point we entered our
  38. friends house and my father called the local airport to check on any
  39. confirmed radar reports of the object.  He was told by the on-duty
  40. air traffic controller that he had had no aircraft on his scope for
  41. the past 20 minutes nor were there any flights logged to be coming in
  42. prior to 23:00hrs.  The sighting took place shortly after 21:00hrs
  43. with the call being made approximately 15 minutes later.  My father
  44. hung up the phone shaking his head and related to me what the ATC had
  45. said.  We both new what we had observed regardless.

  47. Shortly before my fathers death in 1981 he had a conversation with me
  48. one evening that took me totally by surprise.  I don't remember
  49. exactly how the conversation of UFOs came up but it was during this
  50. time he told me what it was that had triggered his interest in the
  51. topic.

  53. During the mid-50's my father was stationed at the White Sands
  54. Proving Grounds in New Mexico.
  55. His MOS at this time was a Combat Photographer.  He was assigned to
  56. photograph various launches of test missles at this time.  I believe
  57. I still have some of these photos showing missles of various types
  58. sitting on their launching trailers or just as they are leaving their
  59. launchers.

  61. He went on to tell me (exact dates and times are long since
  62. forgotten) that one afternoon he was not assigned duty but was in the
  63. lab puttering around.  At this time a jeep containing several M.P.s
  64. drove up and they told him to get his camera and anything else needed to
  65. take pictures and come with them.....NOW!  As he was getting his
  66. equipment he asked what was going on and was told he wouldn't believe
  67. them if they told him but he was needed at one of the firing ranges
  68. immediately.

  70. After getting into the jeep they arrived at the range in question
  71. shortly there after where my father states he was confronted by a
  72. crowd of people consisting of men in white lab coats along with very
  73. high ranking officers.  He stated that he was quickly hustled to the
  74. front of the group and shown what he was wanted to photograph.  My
  75. father stated that on this desert range a missle had been set up on a
  76. launcher down range from the (blockhouse?, pit?) as was standard
  77. procedure prior to a missle launch of which he had photographed many
  78. before.  I do not recall what the distance from the safety area to
  79. the launcher was, whether it was measured in miles, yards, kilos,
  80. etc.   However my father stated that the distance wasn't extremely
  81. long.  The launcher was set up at a saddle point between two low
  82. hills.  He went on to state that next to the missile was hovering a
  83. very large silver disc shaped object.  He said it was of the classic
  84. inverted cup and saucer form except bigger,  much bigger than the
  85. launcher itself.  He was ordered to begin taking photographs which he
  86. did for approximately the next thirty minutes before the object took
  87. off extremely fast straight up, disappearing from sight within
  88. seconds.  My father said that he was immediately transported back to
  89. the photo lab and ordered to complete the first stage of the
  90. developing process but to stop there.  He learned later that a
  91. different man was brought in for each stage that followed so that no
  92. one ever saw the next stage.  He said shortly thereafter all those
  93. involved in the developing process were ushered into a room and told
  94. that the situation that they had been involved in was top secret and
  95. was not to be discussed by them with anyone from this point on.  My
  96. father said shortly after every member of the development team came
  97. under orders sending each of them to a different corner of the earth
  98. effectively separating the participants.   He further said that he
  99. never discussed the matter with anyone before he told me.  This
  100. explained to me his keen interest in the subject.

  102. My father was an honest man, he always meant what he said.  I asked
  103. him questions about the event but he could only say that to this day
  104. he did not know what type of craft it was that he had observed on
  105. that desert missile range.  I also know that my father was not alone
  106. on that day.  He had a group of approximately 40-50 others there with
  107. him at the time.  I would be very interested to hear from someone
  108. that was present during this sighting.  My father stated that prior
  109. to this event he had heard scuttlebutt that sometimes there were
  110. unusual occurances at White Sands but he never had reason to believe
  111. them until this incident.  I would like to hear of other similar
  112. incidents from people stationed at White Sands Proving Grounds.
